POULTICES:

Poultices are one of the oldest methods in which herbal medicine has been used. These usually need to be made up when you need it, due to the freshness of the products used. Normally, poultices are made of fresh herbs, picked on the spot. They are at their most potent, able to provide the maximum possible benefit. Below I have given you one to be used to "Pull-Out" a splinter, bee sting, mosquito venom, black head (small pimple), or something similar. Using a mortar and pestle, or something else you may use is a small open container and a fork or the handle of a wooden spoon (masher). The idea is to have the leaves (seeds, roots, twig) broken, so the nectar, oil or such be broken down so that the skin can pull the good stuff quicker and more effectively treat the wound. Be generous in application, using a clean sock, rag or gauze to wrap around the treated area for a few hours. Beeswax St.John's Wort infused oil Castor Oil Activated Charcoal Bentonite Clay Melt all of the above over a low/med heat till combined. 20 minutes or so. Add Rosemary Oil 4 drops Lavendar Oil 4 drops Clove Oil or add crushed cloves to the above heated mixture to draw out the "medicine" Apply generously, to the area affected and about 2 inches beyond. Cover with a clean rag or gauze that you can tie off or knot. Leave on for several hours or overnight. Wash with gentle organic soap, or use kosher/epsom salt mixed with vinegar or hydrogen peroxide, add a bit of with baking soda if you want something a bit more gently abrasive to cleanse the area.

HERBAL MEDICINAL SYRUPS

Herbal syrups are a great way to getting finicky adults or children to take "their medicine". Made with organic raw honey is best, but if you don't have access to this, find the least "treated and processed" honey you can buy.
I will usually look for honey from Australia (Manuka) Honey. or from New Zealand. For decades pesticides and chemical based fertilizers have been banned from use in these two countries, so I can usually trust that I am getting as fresh and organic honey. Use a 1:1 if you need it to be sweet. I usually use a 1 part honey to 2 parts concoction, such as:

Anti-Microbial (to fight off colds and allergies) 1/2 Cup Honey 1 tsp crushed or minced Turmeric (if you must used dried powdered) 1 inch of Ginger minced or crushed (again if you must use dried powdered) 1 tsp vanilla or other flavor you would enjoy.
I will play around with this, in the winter adding Garlic and or onion to get a really juiced up daily weapon against colds, flu and other such ailments.
Take a spoon every morning (and / or bedtime) to give you body some massive weapons to fight back against air borne or skin contact bugs, virus', etc.

SALVES

Most of my products will start as a salve. Happy Feet and Put Out the Fire both began as a salve. Salves will treat burns, rashes, eczema, sore muscles, bites, wounds, pain, muscle strains, etc.
I will usually start with either Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, or Beeswax, then add the herbs and oils as I go to get the desired results.
Use a double boil pot or a slow cooker, fondue pot if you have one, otherwise make sure that you control the heat, as too much will destroy the products potency.
Here is a wonderful lip balm that you can use on dry cracked elbows, heels, cuticles or knuckles. Organic Salve for what ails ya' Put in the pan about a 1/4 of a cup of Beeswax Add 1/8 cup of Shea Butter (coco butter, mango butter can be substitutes) 3-5 drops of essential oil of your choice 2 tsp of Castor Oil Let heat on low for about 12 minutes. Pull off the stove, pour into a container that you plan to apply with, or in a jar with a lid that you can use your finger to dip into. (Be aware of all the nasties that are on your fingertips and under your nails, dipping into something like this could cause an infection from your dirty skin / nails. I have used Lemon, Lemongrass, Tangerine, Frankincense, Tea Tree, Sweet Orange, and Bergamot oils for my lip balms. I have added Aloe Vera and Vitamin E on occasions too.
